Reset. Reboot. Return: Lessons from an Adjunct Professor Who Took a Breather (and Still Didn’t Actually “Rest”)
You ever just need a minute? Like a real one. Not the “Oh I’ll rest when I finish this email, these edits, this course outline, this brand strategy, this curriculum draft, and this client call” kind of minute. I mean a real-life pause.
So after wrapping another whirlwind semester as an adjunct college professor (shoutout to my students who now know way too much about egg pricing and market elasticity), I took a couple of weeks to reset and reboot. And by reset, I mean caught up on grading, got a real estate license and sipped coffee before it got cold. Progress!
For those who don’t know, I wear multiple hats—and yes, they’re all fabulous. I’m an adjunct professor, a full-time CEO at LCK Consulting Services as a marketing consultant, and a curriculum developer. This means I live in the unique intersection where theory meets the timeline, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
One of the best parts of being both a working professional and a professor is that my classroom stays real. Not theoretical. Not just textbook-deep. REAL.
In my Consumer Behavior class, we didn’t just talk supply and demand—we broke down why eggs were $7.89 in-store and what that meant for pricing strategy, brand loyalty, and even TikTok recipes. (Yes, the egg girlies know.) The students were engaged because it was relevant, immediate, and impacting their own lives.
And it doesn’t stop there. My students get the full experience—reviewing real campaigns from my actual clients and offering feedback like the future marketing pros they are. We connect academic theory with practical application in real time, and let me tell you—it’s magic.
In my Social Media Marketing class, we kick off every session with “What’s Trending?” A segment where students track social trends, influencer flops, algorithm updates, or viral debates—whether it’s their vibe or not. It trains their eyes to see beyond the scroll and into the strategy. Plus, it keeps them sharp. (And slightly obsessed with what corporate Twitter is doing next.)
But as you may have guessed... the break is over. The summer hustle is here.
I’m back to business, back in the classroom for summer school, capstone advising, writing new curriculum, AND running full speed at LCK Consulting Services—while proudly launching our newest expansion: LCK Realty. Because why not disrupt two industries at once?
So yes, I took a little break. But now the inbox is full, the whiteboard is full of ideas, and the Google Docs? Overflowing.
What are you doing this summer? Resting? Scaling? Launching? All three? Either way—remember: rest is productive, teaching is powerful, and bringing your real-life brilliance into every room (and Zoom) you step into? That’s the true flex.
Let’s get to it Friends!
